Tony
Palermo's biography
|
Philosophical,
Spiritual Insights (PSI):
On
a summer night in 1963, 40 people listened for one hour to Kitty
Genovese’ cries for help. She was being attacked on a New York
City street. Not a single person called for help. As we’ll
find out in this last installment of Roy Baumeister’s Evil: Inside Human Violence &
Cruelty, a bystander – singular, plural or institutional – might
be innocent, but is rarely without responsibility. Looking the
other way cost millions of lives in the last Century. As the 21st
Century opens with more of the same violence, we’ll discuss what our
roles as Today’s observers should be. First Sunday in May after
the service, East room. See Tony Palermo for details.
PSI
stands for "Philosophical, Spiritual Insights" [pompous, huh?] or
pounds per square inch, depending on
the topic & intelligence of a particular month's attendees. The
group has been alternating on a yearly basis [approximately] with the
Jesus Discussion Group since 1995. We've covered subjects ranging from
Evolution to Fundamentalism to Buddhism to Astronomy & Physics.
It's been a ball.
