Teacher
Appreciation Brunch
And
Children’s Games Day
Sunday,
January 6
10:30 a.m. –
noon

Teachers
bring your calendars – children bring
your favorite board games.
The
teacher appreciation brunch has become a tradition at UUCNH. This is a great way to start the new year,
enjoy the company of colleagues, and plan and schedule the remainder of
the
church year. We will begin at 10:30 to
offer plenty of time
to plan. A viewing of a UUA video
highlighting “Radical Hospitality” will
be part of the morning.
Children
are asked to bring their favorite board games to church.
Teachers’ children may come at 10:30,
but
other children need not arrive until 11:00.
|
Volunteers (non-RE teachers) are
needed to help with the brunch and children’s activities. This is a
great
way to support our wonderful RE teachers. Contact Greta Porter or Greg
Jarold
for more information.

OWL
Our Whole Lives
Sexuality Education
For 1st& 2nd Graders
Parent
Information Session
Sunday,
January 13, after the service
Wednesday, January 16 at 7 p.m.
Leslie
and Rob Riker will offer Our Whole Lives Sexuality
Education on Sunday morning for our 1st and 2nd
Graders
beginning in January. Leslie and Rob
received intensive training to prepare them for this important role of
sexuality educators.
Parents
of children this age are encouraged to attend an information session. The
information session will be offered at two different times, Sunday,
January 13,
after the service, and Wednesday, January 16 at 7 p.m.
Childcare will be provided.
The
values underlying the curriculum are:
· All children should be
loved and cared for, respected and valued as unique individuals.
|
·
Sexuality
is a natural
and healthy part of living. Children
learn about sexuality beginning at birth and learn throughout their
lives.
·
Children
learn about
sexuality from how people touch them, talk with them and expect them to
behave
as males and females. The messages that
children receive affect their future attitudes, values, and behaviors.
·
Information about
sexuality, human development, and sexual health should be presented to
children
in positive, accurate, and developmentally appropriate ways.
·
Parents are their
children’s most important sexuality educators. The
larger community of educators,
caregivers, and health professionals
can also have a positive influence on children’s sexual health.
·
Information
about
sexuality, human development, and sexual health should be presented to
children
in positive, accurate, and developmentally appropriate ways.
The OWL
program for this age group consists of nine
sessions. The first class will be
offered on January 20, and the classes will continue through April,
supplemented with our monthly RE Social Action Sundays.
