North Hills Community Outreach
Members of UUCNH collect food items weekly for distribution to the needy through North Hills Community Outreach. There is a pantry for members to drop off items of shelf stable food and plastic bags for distribution of food to the needy. From time to time special collections of items are supported by the church including things like backpacks for the start of the school year.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
UUCNH is a pick-up location for Dillner Family Farms - a third generation family-owned fruit and vegetable farm located in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania since the 1940’s - for over forty families each week. Items that are not picked up are donated to the North Hills Community Outreach.
Newspaper and cardboard Recycling
There are drop off boxes in our parking lot for both paper items (newspapers and paper) as well as cardboard.
Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network (PIIN)
There are many members of UUCNH that are active in PINN and UUCNH is a member of this important network. The Pittsburgh Interfaith Impact Network is a network of congregations and organizations in Southwestern Pennsylvania committed to drawing together people of faith to act powerfully on local and regional issues of justice and fairness through the process of community-building, direct action, and negotiation with decision makers.
Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolate
There is a display of Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolates available at UUCNH for members and visitors to purchase. Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries.
